What is Composting?

Composting is the process through which organic material (tree branches, leaves, weeds etc.) decomposes and yields a nutrient rich soil. This farming practice dates back to the Roman Empire, when the compost was a year-long process. Modernized in the 1920’s, most compost today is created within a few months. Compost is commonly used as fertilizer for farming or home gardens, to control soil erosion, for water retention or as a soil conditioner.
